Use of this website
The information on boatgearwise.com is provided as general guidance about boats, trailers and the gear people use with them. It does not replace the instructions that came with a product, your owner manual, the judgment of a qualified marine professional, or the boating and towing rules that apply where you live.
Ratings and capacities are yours to verify
Every boat, trailer and tow vehicle is a different combination. Capacity plates, gross trailer weight, tongue weight, axle and hitch ratings, anchor and rode sizing and line diameters all depend on your specific setup, and we never invent a figure for it. Where we mention a number, it comes from a manufacturer table or an official source and is named as such. Check it against your own equipment before you rely on it.
Safety equipment rules
Which safety equipment you are required to carry, how many life jackets, which flares or signals and which registration rules apply, depends on your state, your water and the length of your boat. Nothing here confirms that a particular item makes you compliant. The current rules are published by the United States Coast Guard at uscgboating.org, and that is the source to check.
No product testing
We do not physically test the products we write about. Our guidance is based on published manufacturer specifications and on reported owner experience. Descriptions of how a product performs are therefore an interpretation of available information, not a measured result, and your own experience may differ. Safety related figures such as load capacity, dimensions and standards references are repeated as the manufacturer states them; always confirm them on the product listing and in the manual before use.
Installation, towing and local rules
Anything that gets bolted, mounted, wired or towed has to hold up on your boat and behind your vehicle, not in a general article. Follow the manufacturer instructions, and use a qualified marine technician, trailer shop or installer when you are not certain that a fixing will carry the load. Towing limits, licensing and launch rules differ per state and per ramp, so verify them locally before you hitch up.
Accuracy
We take care with our content, but we cannot guarantee that all product and specification information is always complete or current. Product lines are revised and specifications change between model years. Always check the manufacturer and retailer information before you buy.
Liability
We are not liable for any damage resulting from the use of the information on this website. You use our guidance at your own discretion.
